St. James Elementary

We arrived at the school around 10:30 I believe and we totally amazed at how all of the children were so excited to see us! They came running up to us and started grabbing our hands, and giving us high fives and they were just so happy...... which of course made US happy. We went in to their main teaching room where we introduced ourselves and presented to them all of the supplies we brought for them. Then we got right to work! We helped build a latrine for the new building they are going to have, so we were moving clay bricks down a hill, going to get water to help mix cement, and also move buckets of cement to the site. It was really a good workout for all of us. At around 1:30 we went back up to the school to have lunch. They were so nice and made a really good lunch for us that had rice, avacado, potato and all sorts of other really good Ugandan food. After lunch we split up into groups and I was in the group that did some art with the second graders. We all drew pictures on the chalk board and they showed me on paper (with the colored pencils that we brought) all the pictures/words that they knew in English. Afterward they gave me the pictures to take home and we all headed out to the field to play a game of soccer. Of course, it was us against them. Jaki and I arent the best soccer players so we decided to leave the game halfway through and we headed over to where some of the kids were sitting. We sat on the grass and they all swarmed around us as we took pictures and played wit bubbles and gave them the kaleidescopes that we brought. It was a lot of fun and they are the most affectionate kids! Many of them were sitting in our laps, and holding our hands....... many of them were so excited to touch a white person. A little before we left, an ice cream bike drove by and we bough ice cream for all 125 kids at the school. The total for all the ice cream came out to 15000 of their money....... it figures out to be about $6 american dollars. Its crazy haha Well, we are all really dirty and we need to shower before dinner so make sure u keep checking in on me cuz we found out that theres free internet at the motel!

R.I.P. Dirty Little Garden Lobster.....

Here's a fun story for you. Randi and I were playing Wii bowling in the basement, and my parents came home from dinner with some work people. We go upstairs to say hi and my mom turns to me and asks "Do you know why there is a lobster in our garden?" My first thought was that a neighbor put a ceramic lobster in the dirt as some sort of weird joke... you know, to see how long it took us to notice it or something..... but no. Let's Get To Know Eachother......

I'm trying to blog more often, even if my life isnt as exciting as id like to be. That being said, I'm just going to post some things about myself if I dont have anything else to talk about. Safe Travels....

I wonder if anyone even still reads this or not. Oh well. For those of you who dont know, I was not able to go back to Uganda this summer. (Its really sad and im really upset about it) However, most of the team was able to! Andy, Kevin and Glenna went out there about a week ago and the rest of the team is leaving tonight around 9:30pm. I wish you all safe travels, and most of all, have fun! I want all of you to know that I am already saving for next years trip! I already have about $100! I know, I know, its nowhere near enough, but thats why im starting now. Not being able to go this summer made me realize how much I love it there, and I guess you can say that lit a fire under my ass to get moving!
